Mercado, Faccani and Fernandez got their trophies at the Paddock Show.

This year’s FIM Superstock 1000 Cup, FIM Europe Superstock 600 Championship and Pata European Junior Cup winners were awarded with their respective trophies last Sunday at Magny-Cours, during a prize giving ceremony that took place at the SBK Paddock Show.

After an intense season full of drama and spectacular racing, Leandro ‘Tati’ Mercado (STK1000), Marco Faccani (STK600) and Augusto Fernandez (EJC) received their well deserved prize for their ultimate achievement in 2014.

Leandro Mercado – Barni Racing Team Ducati
At 22 years of age, Leandro ‘Tati’ Mercado (Barni Racing Team Ducati) has won the 2014 FIM Superstock 1000 Cup after an exciting season finale at Magny-Cours. This is the first time for both team and rider to secure the ultimate prize in what was their maiden season together.

Mercado entered this year’s final round at Magny-Cours with two wins under his belt and a five point advantage over the other title contender Lorenzo Savadori (Team Pedercini Kawasaki), who had also two race wins in the season.

The young Argentinean is the second non-European rider to secure the STK1000 title after Aussie Brendan Roberts, who won back in 2008 on Ducati machinery as well, and the first one from South America.

Marco Faccani – San Carlo Team Italia Kawasaki
A year ago Marco Faccani was chosen by the FMI (Italian Motorcycling Federation) to race in their colours in the FIM Europe Superstock 600 Championship. The now 20 year old from Ravenna joined the San Carlo Team Italia Kawasaki to contest his first season at international level.

His team’s high expectations have been rewarded, as the tall Italian rider took the whole series by storm. Heading into the Spanish Round with a solid 34 point lead, Faccani did not lose his focus and thanks to another great performance in the penultimate round of the season he managed to clinch a well deserved STK600 title under the Andalusian sky after finishing again a lonely winner.

Augusto Fernandez – WIL Sport
Spaniard Augusto Fernandez duly secured the 2014 Pata European Junior Cup title at Magny-Cours in France, setting the seal on eight rounds of dazzling racing on identical Honda CBR500R machines. Fernandez, who celebrated his 17th birthday two weeks ago, needed just a single point from last Sunday’s 10-lap race to wrap up the championship in which he had already scored four race wins and one other podium.

Fernandez is the fourth European Junior Cup winner, the second aboard Honda machinery and with PATA chips as title sponsor.
