The fact and figures that emerged from Round 10.

WorldSBK.com provides some useful statistics about the tenth round of the 2014 eni FIM Superbike World Championship, which took place at Jerez on September 5-7.

Second double win of the year for Marco Melandri, after the one in Malaysia. In both cases, behind him there was Sylvain Guintoli with the twin Aprilia of the works team: the Italian manufacturer is at his fifth double this year.

Aprilia is therefore unbeaten in Jerez with four wins out of four races entered (last year a double by Laverty): in 1990 Jerez Aprilia wasn't part of the championship.

With his two wins Melandri now counts eighteen WSBK race wins, one more than Pierfrancesco Chili (17). In the all-time standings now he lies in eleventh place, behind the most successful Italian rider up to now, Max Biaggi, with 21.

With his two podium placements, Melandri now counts 47, reaching Fabrizio Pirovano and Tom Sykes at the twelfth all-time spot.

Melandri seems to have two favourite spots to build his wins: the fourth and the fifth. Marco obtained his last twelve wins starting nine times from fifth and the remaining three from fourth. For Marco a front row start seems irrelevant: only four of his eighteen wins came from the front row, the last one two years ago in Donington.

Sylvain Guintoli scored two more podium finishes. In 2014 his twelve podium appearances are composed as follows: 2 wins, 7 second places, 3 thirds. Curiously, also Loris Baz this year recorded seven second places: the pair thus combines for 70% of the second places recorded this season.

Guintoli now counts 34 consecutive races in the points, surpassing the second all-time string, recorded by John Kocinski in 1996-1997 (33): in front of him only the absolute record of Max Biaggi, which scored points in 39 straight races, from Brno 2009 race one to Donington 2011 race one. Max scored his record on an Aprilia RSV4 as well.

The Pata Honda riders are also recording noteworthy strings: Jonathan Rea and Leon Haslam are respectively at their 20th and 19th straight race in the points.

QUALIFYING

Second career pole for Loris Baz after the Assen one: in all the four races he started from pole, Loris wasn't able to climb on the podium.

Also for Davide Giugliano a good grid spot isn't the first step towards a good final result: Davide scored in Jerez his fourteenth front row. In the 27 ensuing races he climbed on the podium only twice: Misano 2012 race one, when he was third, and Imola 2013 race one, when he was second.

35th front row for Tom Sykes, which entered the top-10 all-time list, going level with Raymond Roche, James Toseland and Carlos Checa. The all-time leader is Troy Corser, with 99 front rows.
