Elias: "A podium would be the perfect way to finish the season"

The Spaniard is eager to fight at the front in the last round of the year.

Toni Elias (Red Devils Roma Aprilia) heads to the final round of the eni FIM Superbike World Championship with the podium as his only goal. The experienced Spanish rider might have a great chance for a top 3 finish under the floodlights of the Losail International Circuit this weekend.

“I’ve always done quite well there in the past, even though racing at night is never easy given the temperatures and the high level of humidity. It won’t be that bad, but those conditions have to be taken into consideration.”

“I doubt that the riders who have never raced at night will struggle. You get used to it quite easily from the first session. It’s mostly about the feeling, the tarmac is colder and so the grip feeling is less. I think the WSBK riders will be quite at ease with it, especially because of the Pirelli tyres we use. The work on the set-up will also be crucial.”

As his WSBK first full season is drawing to a close, Elias rates his 2014 not a bad one: “Everyone can have a different opinion about it. There are people who believe that, due to the fact I’m riding an Aprilia, I should have done better. We did well with what we’ve got. We had many problems throughout the year but we were up there at times, fighting for the podium. After narrowly missing out on it many times, I think a rostrum finish would be the best way to end the racing year.”
