The EVO class leader has not yet fully recovered from the injury.

David Salom (Kawasaki Racing Team – EVO) will be back in action this weekend at Jerez to defend his 37 point lead in the EVO class. The Spaniard underwent a major right hand surgery at the end of July after dealing with a painful injury that affected his performance in the first part of the season. Despite not being fully fit, Salom has already recovered well enough to take part in his home event.

How is recovery going for you?
“We expected the recovery time to be much longer, two months or so, but we are speeding up the process and everything has gone well so far. The hand is still not 100%, not even close, but I think it will be good enough to race.”

“This week I started training again at full pace, even though I cannot push at my best as I still lack of strenght in the joint. At the moment we are working on getting back the full movement in the wrist and step by step we will increase our workout load.”

Have you been back on a bike already?
“I still don’t have enough strenght to race, but I will evaluate my conditions before the race weekend. I hope I will feel good on the bike, even though you need a lot of strenght to ride a superbike, especially on such a demanding, technical and fast track like Jerez. The bike has a great potential, so I hope to score a couple of good results.”

You currently have a significant 37 point lead on Canepa. What is your strategy for the weekend then?
“We need to defend our lead and try not to lose too many points. It will be a positive weekend for us but if we can finish ahead of Canepa and other riders. We are in a difficult situation right now, we don’t have time for a full recovery but if we can limit the damage here at Jerez we will have three more weeks to recover before Magny-Cours.”
