Salom: "It would be nice to grab the EVO title by being on top in Qatar"

The Spaniard is likely to become the 2014 SBK EVO champion.

David Salom (Kawasaki Racing Team) currently leads the EVO standings with a 30 point advantage over Niccolò Canepa (Althea Racing) with just one round left to be held at Losail International Circuit, Qatar, on November 2nd.

At the same time the Spaniard has been dealing over the course this season with a painful right hand injury that prevented him from performing at his best. After the surgery he underwent last July, the situation worsened again in the most recent round of Magny-Cours: "In France I almost highsided during Saturday practice session and it affected to my hand injury. On Sunday, it was raining heavily and we decided not to race because it was too complicated to stay upright in such a difficult weather conditions. Another crash would have been dramatic given with my hand injury."

The Spanish rider is now getting ready for the last round of the season season in Qatar, first time under the artificial lights at Losail: "I've never raced at Losail at night. I did at some other tracks of the Spanish and World Endurance Championship. I feel confident because my right hand is reacting well and will get to Qatar with the hope to score some a couple of good results. I think it's much nicer to become champion by edging out the EVO field the last races and, with the advantage we gained during the season, I think the I can take some risks and try to beat Barrier and Canepa, who are always very competitive."

"Obviously it will be tough,” Salom added. “We were best EVO classified in the first two races of the season in Australia and it would be nice to the grab the title by doing the same in the last two races."
